The Detroit Lions announced Saturday that they have placed RB Brian Calhoun and RB Aveion Cason on the Reserved/Injured list and released 20 players to trim their roster down to the NFL-mandated 53-man limit prior to the 6 p.m. ET league deadline.

Defensive back Fernando Bryant and quarterback Matt Gutierrez were among the 18 players released by the New England Patriots Saturday. Bryant’s release, along with that of DB Jason Webster on Aug. 26 removes two veteran players with starting experience brought in this offseason to help replace Asante Samuel.

Backup quarterbacks Jared Lorenzen and Quinn Gray were among the players waived by the Colts Saturday. The move leaves the team with two active quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi.
