Sproles closing in on LT understudy role

Chargers reserve running back Darren Sproles had his best game of the preseason, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers win over Seattle. Sproles is closing in on being Tomlinson’s backup, in his battle with rookie Jacob Hester who also took a hit in short-yardage situations.
The Chargers have deferred to Hester near the goal line during the preseason, but he was stopped on his first four attempts against Seattle. (Hester eventually broke through in the second half.) But it was Sproles who actually scored on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter. Sproles likely cemented the backup role to Tomlinson and should be considered the handcuff.
